Who can remember what they were doing thirteen years ago? Most of us can't remember what we were doing last weekend. In 1990, Dave Piccioni, owner of the legendary Blackmarket Records shop, was starting Azuli Records, now the UK's longest running and most respected independent dance music label.
How many independent record labels last that long? Let alone can say they're still going from strength to strength thirteen years later. The secret of Azuli's longevity is that from the first release to the latest, approaching 200th release and counting, they have continued to release top quality dance music from some of the world's top producers and re-mixers.
If you look at some of the names that have been associated with Azuli over the years it reads like a hall of fame/who's who of the house scene; Romanthony, Basement Boys, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Satoshi Tomiie, Murk, Thelma Houston, Michael Watford, Byron Stingly and Chicken Lips. Azuli can also take credit in helping to launch, and supporting the early careers some of the U.K.'s pioneering house producers, K.C.C., Chocolate Fudge, Disco Elements, Booker T, and Joey Negro, to mention just a few.
With such an on-it dance floor outlook, Azuli Records continue to straddle the music divisions, attracting a wide cross-section of fans for their vocal/filter/disco/electro/deep and tribal jams that fly out on their prolific release schedule.
