chokai
Formed in 2000, the Chokai "project" was originally born from a single album, titled "traveller". The album was put together by Simon and Chris Curry to test their own abilities and creative potential and to gauge just how other people felt about the Chokai sound. The album was a success, blending a wide range of genres from house to drum 'n' bass. A year later, "traveller south", the second album was born focusing more on exploring all corners of electronic music, which lead to the duo being signed to 3Bass records in 2003. After the successful first commercial release of their 3rd album titled "Tori Umi" (a now classic and collectable album since it was originally sold on limited edition CD) the Chokai partnership decided to take some time out and spent the next 2 years homing their skills both in live and studio performances, and since leaving 3Bass, have signed to Artificial Bliss Recordings to officially release their 4th album titled "iko" in early 2006.
The Chokai style blends elements of retrospective synths, poignant melodic and soothing pads and undeniably fat beats. Originally moulding themselves listening to artists such as Daft Punk, Les Rhythmes Digitales, Curtis Mayfield, Chemical Brothers and BT, Chokai has evolved into its own uniquely addictive and entrancing sound.
