Whoop! Records was started in the summer of 1994 and run by DJs Andrew Lekker and Joel Xavier who were inspired by labels such as the now defunct Guerrilla and Om labels. This left a gap for the so called progressive house sound, in other words pounding, quality grooves which are neither techno nor commercial house but banging, tuneful, dj-friendly and accessible dance music. Whoop! has grown from strength to strength since 1994 continually entering the Mixmag Buzz charts, Coolcutz charts and the Record Mirror Club Charts amongst others, with the labels tracks and artists receiving critical acclaim from all over the music press and industry. They have also never stopped receiving support from major league djs such Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Tenaglia, Eric Morillo, Sander Kleinenberg, Paul Van Dyk, and Nick Warren (Way Out West).
