: Solid State Stereo : Andre Supra and Fawad Naqvi
With a childhood that was drenched in music, in the form of a mother who happened to be a piano teacher, it is no surprise that Andre exudes natural talent; with a fresh approach that is built on years of music training and experience.
His awakening however, only took place at the age of seventeen when he began absorbing the airwaves of local Dance Shows on radio. This passion was fuelled by a fellow classmate at his college who provided regular encouragement in the form of live DJ sets that were shared with other classmates during breaks.
With the know-how, the motivation, the love and the means, attained through a borrowed copy of MAGIX MUSIC MAKER, all in place, Andre began dabbling with various samples and loops and soon, he had found himself carving a sound that was unique to the music that he had become accustomed to.
A trip to the UK in 1999 brought with it an entire new outlook with regards to music, for Andre. This was spurred on by his discovery of a copy of Sasha and John Digweed globalunderground series. From here on, Progressive was the way forward for Andre.
Andres return to South Africa brought him to the realisation that the early days of Rave were over and that new avenues were waiting to be forged within the South African Music Industry. The more he worked on and created his own sound, the more his love for own style grew, a love that inspired many compositions under the pseudonymsSolid State Stereo and SideLife. Quadrata is a joint project between Supra and a Pakistani living in Toronto by the name of Fawad Naqvi, they share a similar mindset and together have produced and remixed many compositions ranging from Ambient and spacey to cutting edge progressive.
His unique sound and style were noticed by Hans von Burg, of Glo-Tech Africa, and Supra has since been taken under the Glo-Tech banner as a writer with a uniquely fresh, yet distinct sound.
Fawad Naqvi, alias Gonvuzion has been producing mostly in Karachi, Pakistan since early 2000. Born in 1984, his style ranges from ambient and chillout to deep tribal and progressive beats. His strength lies mainly in his ability to create beautiful atmosphere within his tracks, and melodies that can leave you yearning for more. Beatwork was never his forte, but then he met fellow producer, Jo-burger Andre Supra (aka Sidelife), and turned things around. This, coupled with a move to Toronto, Canada, had a very positive effect on music production. Sidelife's brilliant skill and similar taste and style of rythmns and beats brought about a brand new dimension to their music, and together they started to create tracks under alias Quadrata and Solid State Stereo.
